About Women Turkish Yemeni Shoes

Women's Turkish Yemeni Shoes — 1,000-Year Anatolian Heritage

The Yemeni is a traditional Anatolian slip-on shoe with over a millennium of heritage in Turkey. Bespoky's women's Yemeni shoes — 42 styles hand-stitched in Gaziantep by 4th-generation Anatolian artisans. Since 2018, partnering with these workshops, we have built a Yemeni range that combines the historic slip-on silhouette with modern barefoot construction: vegetable-tanned calf leather upper, anatomical wide toe box, true zero drop sole, and a modern TR rubber sole for urban grip.

A piece of Anatolian heritage — made wearable for the modern foot.

How to Choose Your Yemeni

For Daily Wear

Soft suede or unburnished calf Yemenis in cognac, dark brown, navy, or natural undyed colors work for daily casual wear and weekends. Slip-on construction — no laces, no fuss. Pair with denim, linen, summer dresses.

For Office / Smart-Casual

For creative offices and smart-casual settings, choose burnished smooth calf in dark brown or oxblood. The traditional Yemeni silhouette reads as artisanal and intentional.

For Travel

The Yemeni is the catalog's most travel-ready shoe — slip-on at airport security, breathable in hot climates, packable. A single pair handles weeks of travel.

Why Calf Leather, Not Buffalo

Traditional Yemenis were made in a variety of leathers, but the best heritage examples use calf hide — it shapes to the foot and develops the rich patina that defines a well-worn Yemeni. We use the same calf hide as our Oxfords and Chelseas: 1.4-1.6mm, soft, breathable. Why calf, not buffalo.

Care Guide

Smooth Calf Leather Care

Wipe after each wear. Condition every 4-6 weeks with neutral leather balm. Cedar shoe trees overnight. Full care guide.

Suede / Nubuck Care

Brush after each wear. Suede protector before first wear and seasonally. Suede Yemenis work best in dry summer conditions.

Customer Questions

What is a Yemeni shoe?

A Yemeni is a traditional Anatolian slip-on shoe — low cut, no laces, hand-stitched, originally worn across Anatolia for over a thousand years. Bespoky reinterprets the silhouette with barefoot construction.

Are they office-appropriate?

Yes for creative and smart-casual offices. Choose burnished smooth calf in dark colors.

Can I wear them outdoors?

Yes — the modern TR rubber outsole grips concrete, cobblestones, and wood. Many heritage Yemenis are indoor-only; ours are built for the street.

How long do they last?

3-5+ years of regular wear with conditioning. The upper develops patina over time.

Sizing?

True to size. Slip-on construction means you cannot adjust as much as a laced shoe — if between sizes, size up. Sizing guide.
